"Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope." - Maya Angelou
Each year we see hundreds of animals enter our shelter. Some are in need of above and beyond medical care. When you make a donation to The The Hope Medical Fund you are helping HSCC provide treatment for dogs and cats with medical conditions that need extra time, attention, care and finances. This fund has paid for complex surgeries, expensive x-rays, treatment for heartworm positive dogs, and many other tests, treatments and medications which normal funding simply cannot cover. The Hope Medical Fund has helped countless animals become healthy and adoptable, giving them a second chance at life and love.

HISTORY
In May 2002, the Hickory Daily Record ran a front page story on an abandoned cat that had been injured to the extent of losing both of her back legs and tail while struggling to move and protect her kittens. Due to her determination, Humane Society of Catawba County made the decision to go ahead with the necessary surgery to save her life and named her Hope. The cost of the treatment in 2002 was $400, which was a tremendous undertaking for a non-profit animal welfare organization. The newspaper article brought in over $4000, which paid for Hope's medical cost and established "The Hope Medical Fund." The fund, on an annual basis, allows HSCC to provide critical care for the animals that have been injured or require extensive care once they arrive at the shelter.
